I wanted Doors to be a song about love. At the time I recorded the first demo, I code-named it "Love Song" and I gave to a very special person of mine. I thought I had written a love song for somebody.
I was off.
I was off in some important ways as I learned some time after. First, Doors turned out to be a song about a less traditional kind of love celebrating gratitude and forgiveness. And probably not last, that person was a great inspiration but I still wrote the song for self-assurance. Isn't it always like that? Just one more way to be reminded how imperfect we are.

Si no tuvieras miedo is a song about fear, apathy and shortsightedness. Fear can spur us into action or paralyze us. Can we stand by ourselves? How much do we believe in what we say we believe in? Are we afraid of standing out? Of being heard? The familiar feelings of apathy, disinterest, and selfishness are like a cancer.
In a world of selfish beings, everyone loses - especially the ones who think they are taking advantage of the world.

Rey de pretextos is a song about self-sabotage and how miserable it can make us feel. After we repeat ourselves several times why we do or don't do the things that could make us happier we transform these excuses into falsely authentic reasons of why we do or don't do what's relevant to us. Relevant decisions like opening our hearts to new friends, taking professional risks, dating a person that wouldn't normally be our "type" amongst others. Later on, it becomes hard to go back and defy these "reasons" and we continue to give away potential sources of happiness, of love and success.
